A guild or clan tag is the hardest naming problem on this site, because it is the shortest. Most games give you three to five characters, the tag appears at small size in a kill feed rather than on a profile, and everybody in the clan has to wear it. That rules out almost every decoration that works in a nickname. Below: 84 characters that stay legible small, 100 short marks to copy, and the arithmetic of spending four slots — written for Free Fire and PUBG Mobile clans, and it applies just as well to a Instagram group handle.
Four slots, and what each one costs
With four characters, every symbol you add removes a letter. That is the entire design problem.

| Pattern | Example | Letters left | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Letters only | KING | 4 | Readable, memorable, zero flair |
| One leading mark | ★KNG | 3 | The best trade — the mark reads as a badge |
| One trailing mark | KNG★ | 3 | Works, but the mark is first to be truncated |
| Wrapped | ★KN★ | 2 | Two letters is rarely enough to say anything |
| Two leading marks | ★★KN | 2 | Reads as filler, not emphasis |
| Frame | ꧁K꧂ | 1 | Does not work at this length. Save it for the nickname. |
One mark and three letters is the pattern that survives contact with reality. Everything else either loses the name or loses the mark.
84 characters that stay legible at small size
Solid shapes, single codepoints, wide font coverage. These are the ones that still read when the tag is drawn at kill-feed size instead of on a profile page.
The kill-feed test
A tag is not read on a profile — it is read in a list, at a small size, while somebody is doing something else. Three properties decide whether it survives that.

- Solid beats hollow. ★ holds its shape when it is small; ☆ collapses into a grey smudge. The same is true of ♛ against ♕, and ● against ○.
- Simple beats detailed. ⚔ and ✦ read instantly. ⚜ and 𓆩 have interior detail that turns to mush below about twelve pixels.
- Wide beats narrow. ▰ and ■ occupy their slot fully. ⋆ and · are so small that they read as dirt on the screen rather than as decoration.
The practical check: shrink your tag on screen until it is roughly the height of a line of chat text. If you cannot tell what the symbol is, neither can anyone else.
Short marks to copy
A hundred short items — one to a few characters each, chosen for tag length rather than for framing a nickname.
Sample tags and clan names to copy
The first row is the one-mark-and-three-letters pattern applied to a four-character tag — copy one and swap the letters for your own. The second row is the same word run through the generator at the top of this page, which is what a clan name can look like once you are no longer paying for every character.
Eighteen tag patterns, each one mark plus three letters — the only shape that leaves room for a readable abbreviation.
Nine styles, all real output from the generator at the top of this page, run on the word WOLF.

The part that actually gets clans banned
Decoration is never the offence. What gets a tag actioned is what it says — and because a tag is worn by every member, it is enforced harder than a nickname. BGMI has issued 90-day bans over clan names judged inappropriate; that is a season and a half of everyone’s account, over four characters.
| Tag | Risk | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ★KNG, ⚔PRO, ✦ELT | None | Symbols are decoration; the letters say nothing |
| An abbreviation of a real clan name | None | The normal case |
| A slur shortened to four characters | High | Length is not a disguise, and moderation normalises lookalike characters first |
| A staff or developer title | High | Treated as impersonation regardless of decoration |
| Sexual or violent abbreviations | High | Conduct rules cover the tag exactly as they cover chat |
The 90-day figure is BGMI’s published enforcement for inappropriate clan names. Reviewed 1 September 2026.
Making the tag and the nickname work together
The tag and the nickname are read as one line, so they should not compete. Two rules cover it: put decoration in one of the two, not both; and if the tag carries the mark, keep the nickname plain enough to be searchable so people can actually add you.
A clan where every member has a heavily decorated nickname and the same decorated tag reads as noise in a kill feed. One strong mark, worn consistently by everyone, reads as a team.
Kaomoji for the clan description
Far too long for a tag, but clan descriptions and recruitment posts have room, and kaomoji render everywhere because they are punctuation.
Team and battle emoji
For descriptions and social posts rather than the tag itself — most tag fields either reject emoji or draw them at a width that eats two slots.
Where to go next
The full library, sorted by shape with a codepoint on every character, is on the NickSymbol home page. For the nickname beside the tag, the PUBG and BGMI symbols page and the Free Fire symbols page work through the longer budget; if a mark fails to draw in game, why symbols show as empty boxes explains why.
Clan tag symbols FAQ
How many characters can a clan tag be?
It varies by game and is short in all of them — commonly three to five. Test yours by holding a key in the field until it stops accepting input; that gives you the real number for your build rather than one copied from another site.
Which symbol is best for a clan tag?
★ or ⚔ if you want it read instantly, ✦ if you want it read as style. All three are single characters with very wide coverage, so they cost one slot and render inside the game’s own font.
Can I use ꧁꧂ in a clan tag?
Technically yes, practically no. The pair costs two of your three-to-five slots and leaves nothing for a name. Frames are a nickname decoration; tags are too short for them.
Do clan tags get banned for symbols?
No. Enforcement follows what the tag says. BGMI’s 90-day bans for inappropriate clan names were about content, not characters — and since everyone in the clan wears it, that content is judged more strictly than a personal nickname.
Should the tag or the nickname carry the decoration?
One of them, not both. They are displayed together, so decorating both makes the line unreadable. Putting the mark on the tag and keeping the nickname plain also keeps you searchable, which matters when people are trying to add you.
