Laying out a bio that does not collapse
The bio has 150 characters and real line breaks, which makes it the only Instagram field where layout is possible at all. Four patterns cover almost everything people are trying to do.

The mistake worth avoiding: decoration on every line. With 150 characters, four decorated lines can spend a fifth of the bio on ornament, and the result reads as a wall rather than as design. Decorate one line, or decorate the gaps between them — not both.

Three things worth knowing before you change your name
- Your display name is searched. Decorating it so heavily that the letters are unrecognisable makes you harder to find, which is usually the opposite of the goal.
- Name changes are rate-limited. Instagram restricts how often the display name can change in a period, so it is worth settling on one rather than iterating live.
- Changing your @username frees the old one. Someone else can take it immediately, and links pointing at the old handle break. The display name carries no such risk — which is another reason to put the styling there.

No. The @username accepts only lowercase letters, numbers, dots and underscores. There is no workaround, no font trick and no third-party app that changes this — it is validated on Instagram’s servers.
How do people have styled Instagram names then?
Those are display names, which is a separate field that does accept Unicode. It is the bold line at the top of a profile, above the @handle.
Will symbols make my profile harder to find?
They can. Search matches both fields, so a display name that has replaced its letters with lookalike characters is harder to match. Keep the letters real and put the decoration around them.
How many characters does an Instagram bio hold?
